Crochet Skate Toe Guard

I've been teaching myself how to crochet, and I won't be the first to say that learning is HARD work! But after perhaps a week of persistent struggling (and a bucket-load of YouTube videos), I figured out how to do it. Anyway, this is one of my latest projects was just for fun; a temporary fix until I can order and receive some leather ones, but they look kind of kitschy cool! I used the pattern from this site: onacraftyadventure.blogspot.co… but I had to amend the pattern, because I discovered that my new Moxi skates toes are a very different shape to the author's Riedell She Devils. Her original pattern probably would be good for most roller derby-style skate, but it was far too too short for my lovely recreational-style skates. So here is my adapted pattern:

Materials:
3.5mm crochet hook (size 4 or E hook)
8 ply acrylic yarn

Abbreviations:
ch - chain (pull yarn through) 
sc - single crochet (hook through, pull yarn through, pull yarn through 2 loops)
sl st - slip stitch (hook through, pull yarn through 2 loops)

Crochet in the round:
Row 1: Magic circle with 6 single crochet. (6)
Row 2: Inc 2, repeat to end (12)
Row 2: Sc 1, Inc 2, repeat to end (18)
Row 3: Sc 2, Inc 2, repeat to end (24)
Row 4: Sc 3, Inc 2, repeat to end (30)
Row 5: Sc 4, Inc 2, repeat to end (36)
Row 6: Sc 5, Inc 2, repeat to end (42)
Row 8 - 10: Sc around (42 for 3 rounds)*
This is where we are going to add the first set of lace eyelets:
Row 11: Sc 18, Ch 3, Sc in the next space and Sc a total of 6, Ch 3, Sc in the next space, Sc to end (48)
This is where we are going to add the loop for the tow stop and a second set of lace eyelets, so ignore the rounds and just count:
Row 12-13: Sc to the the last 2 spaces,  Ch 9, skip 4 spaces, Sc 18, Ch 3, Sc in the next space and Sc a total of 10, Ch 3, Sc until you reach the end of the C9, Sl St to finish off.
Tie off. Weave in ends.

*This is where you can add or decrease rows according to the size of your skate toe+toe stop+laces hole location.

To be honest, I kind of winged it, and I am hoping that the above pattern is an accurate enough for people to make their own crocheted toe guards.

Edit: I made another pair in a different acrylic yarn and noticed that you may need to adjust the size of your crochet hook according to the stretch in your yarn, i.e.: if your yarn is a little stretchy, use the size 4/E crochet hook, but if there is no give in your yarn, use a size 3/C crochet hook for something similar in size.
