Mantyke Papercraft

Description

I build this happy chappy THREE times! Suffice to say that, to me, it looked less happy for the experiences. You would think that it would be an easy build - no arms, no legs, no tail - but in actual fact, it was harder than I expected.

For all intensive purposes, it's a ball, albeit a smooshed ball with antennae, but the principal is the same. There really isn't any place that you can hide a closing spot (like a tail or foot) so the first two builds were not perfect to look at.

Then the smooth curves were an issue too. I had to cut the template up in more places that I originally, so that these curves became natural for the papercraft. There was significant tension issues in the first two models.

But all's well that ends well, as they say. And I just suddenly realized that I built the Shiny Mantyke by mistake ... the two textures are so similar, I don't think it makes much of a difference, does it?

This one will be available from Paperpokés in mid January. Oh, and if you're wondering how I manipulated the physics of gravity, it's the magic of micro-filament! :giggle:
