I feel like Magikarp gets a lot of undeserved hate. He's not the most useless pokemon. He evolves Gyarados. In my opinion, Unknown is the worst pokemon. It only knows one attack, it can't learn any other attacks, and it can't evolve. Sometimes you can run into a wild Magikarp that knows tackle or flail.
And you can always level Magikarp up easily with the exp share
